Project Abstract

This project aims to investigate the synergies between sustainable design principles and the preservation of traditional craftsmanship. In an era where mass production and global supply chains have often overshadowed the value of handmade goods, this study seeks to uncover the potential for a harmonious integration of modern design approaches and time-honored artisanal techniques. The importance of this project lies in its ability to address several pressing challenges facing both the design industry and traditional craft communities. Firstly, the growing demand for sustainable, eco-friendly products has driven designers to seek innovative solutions that minimize environmental impact. By exploring the intersection of sustainable design and traditional craftsmanship, this project seeks to identify opportunities where the inherent sustainability of craft-based production can be leveraged to create products that are not only visually appealing but also environmentally responsible. Secondly, many traditional craft communities around the world are facing the threat of decline, as younger generations are drawn to more lucrative and technologically-driven careers. By showcasing the value and unique qualities of handmade goods, the project aims to foster a renewed appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and its role in a sustainable future. The research methodology for this project will involve a multifaceted approach.
