Abstract
The presence of microplastics in coastal waters has become a growing concern due to their potential adverse effects on marine ecosystems and human health. This research project aims to assess the sources, distribution, and environmental impacts of microplastic pollution in coastal waters. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, presenting the background of the issue, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of key terms related to microplastic pollution in coastal waters. In Chapter Two, a comprehensive literature review is conducted to explore existing research on microplastic pollution in coastal waters. The review covers topics such as sources of microplastics, distribution patterns, environmental impacts, and current mitigation strategies. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the sampling techniques, analysis methods, data collection procedures, quality control measures, and ethical considerations. The chapter also discusses the selection criteria for study sites and sample collection protocols. The findings of the research are presented and discussed in Chapter Four. This chapter provides a detailed analysis of the sources and distribution patterns of microplastics in coastal waters, as well as an assessment of their environmental impacts on marine organisms and ecosystems. The chapter also discusses the implications of the findings for environmental management and policy development. Finally, Chapter Five summarizes the research findings, discusses their implications, and offers recommendations for future research and environmental management strategies.
