Abstract
The accumulation of microplastics in marine ecosystems has become a significant environmental concern in recent years. This research aims to investigate the impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems, focusing on their distribution, interactions with marine organisms, and potential ecological consequences. The study will employ a multi-method approach, combining field sampling, laboratory experiments, and data analysis to comprehensively assess the extent of microplastic pollution and its effects on marine environments. Chapter one provides an introduction to the research topic, discussing the background of the study, the problem statement, research objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of key terms. Chapter two presents a comprehensive literature review that synthesizes existing knowledge on microplastic pollution in marine ecosystems, including sources, distribution, fate, and impacts on marine organisms. Chapter three outlines the research methodology, detailing the sampling techniques, laboratory experiments, data analysis methods, and statistical tools employed in the study. The methodology section also discusses the ethical considerations and limitations of the research design. Chapter four presents the findings of the study, including the distribution patterns of microplastics in different marine environments, the interactions between microplastics and marine organisms, and the potential ecological implications of microplastic pollution.
