Abstract
Climate change, particularly the increased frequency and intensity of floods, poses a significant threat to housing for the urban poor in Ilajesomolu Local Government. This study aims to explore the effects of flood-induced by climate change on housing conditions for the urban poor in this area. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys to gather data on the impacts of flooding on housing quality, affordability, and accessibility for low-income residents in Ilajesomolu. The qualitative component of the study will involve in-depth interviews with residents, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to understand the experiences, perceptions, and coping strategies related to flood-induced housing challenges. These interviews will provide insights into the specific ways in which flooding affects housing conditions and exacerbates existing vulnerabilities among the urban poor in Ilajesomolu. The quantitative survey will gather data on the extent of flood damage to housing structures, the economic costs of repair and reconstruction, and the overall impact on housing affordability and accessibility for low-income households. By analyzing this data, the study aims to identify the most significant challenges faced by the urban poor in accessing safe and adequate housing in the context of climate change-induced floods.
