Abstract
Urban stormwater management is a critical aspect of sustainable urban development, particularly in the face of increasing urbanization and climate change impacts. Green infrastructure has emerged as a promising approach to managing stormwater runoff while providing additional benefits such as improving air quality, enhancing biodiversity, and mitigating urban heat island effects. This research project aims to assess the effectiveness of green infrastructure in urban stormwater management through a case study of a specific city/region. The study will begin with a comprehensive literature review to explore the theoretical underpinnings of green infrastructure, its various types, and its potential benefits in managing stormwater in urban settings. The research methodology will involve a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches, including site visits, surveys, and data analysis. The specific city/region chosen for the case study will be evaluated in terms of its existing green infrastructure practices, challenges faced in stormwater management, and opportunities for improvement. The findings of this research will be presented and discussed in Chapter Four, highlighting the effectiveness of green infrastructure in managing stormwater, reducing flood risks, and enhancing urban resilience. The discussion will also delve into the social, economic, and environmental implications of green infrastructure implementation, as well as the barriers to its adoption. Recommendations for policy-makers, urban planners, and other stakeholders will be provided based on the research findings to promote the integration of green infrastructure in urban stormwater management strategies. In conclusion, this research project contributes to the growing body of knowledge on green infrastructure and its role in sustainable urban stormwater management. By focusing on a specific city/region, the study provides valuable insights into the practical challenges and opportunities associated with implementing green infrastructure solutions. Ultimately, the findings of this research aim to inform evidence-based decision-making and policy formulation to enhance urban resilience and sustainability in the face of climate change impacts.
