Project Abstract

The rapid urbanization and population growth in many parts of the world have led to a significant increase in the generation of municipal solid waste (MSW). This challenge has become a critical issue for urban areas, as the proper management of waste is essential for maintaining a clean and healthy environment, as well as for promoting sustainable development. This project aims to investigate and develop effective waste management strategies that can contribute to the sustainable development of urban areas. One of the primary objectives of this project is to analyze the current waste management practices in selected urban centers and identify the challenges and limitations faced by local authorities and communities. This includes evaluating the efficiency of collection, transportation, and disposal methods, as well as the integration of recycling and waste-to-energy technologies. By understanding the existing waste management systems, the project will provide a comprehensive assessment of the current situation and identify areas for improvement. The project will also explore the potential of innovative waste management technologies and approaches that can enhance the sustainability of urban waste management. This includes investigating the feasibility and performance of advanced sorting, processing, and treatment methods, such as mechanical-biological treatment, anaerobic digestion, and thermal conversion. The project will assess the environmental, economic, and social impacts of these technologies, as well as their potential for integration into existing waste management infrastructure. Furthermore, the project will examine the role of stakeholder engagement and community participation in the design and implementation of sustainable waste management strategies.
