Abstract
Timber has been traditionally used as a building material for centuries due to its abundance, renewable nature, and aesthetic appeal. However, in hot climate regions, the use of timber as an external material in building production presents both prospects and challenges. This study aims to investigate the potential benefits and drawbacks of utilizing timber in construction projects in hot climates. The prospects of using timber in hot climate regions include its natural insulating properties, which can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce the need for excessive air conditioning. Timber is also a sustainable material, providing a more eco-friendly alternative to conventional building materials. Additionally, timber can enhance the visual appeal of buildings, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Despite these advantages, there are several challenges associated with using timber in hot climates. One major concern is the potential for timber to warp, shrink, or rot in high humidity and temperature conditions. This can compromise the structural integrity of the building and lead to maintenance issues over time. Another issue is the susceptibility of timber to insect infestations, which can pose a threat to the longevity of the building. To address these challenges, proper treatment and maintenance techniques must be implemented to protect timber from environmental factors and pests. This may include applying protective coatings, ensuring proper ventilation to prevent moisture buildup, and conducting regular inspections for signs of damage or decay. Additionally, designers and builders should consider the local climate and site conditions when selecting timber species and construction methods. In conclusion, the use of timber as an external material in building production in hot climate regions offers both opportunities and obstacles. By understanding the prospects and problems associated with timber construction, stakeholders can make informed decisions to maximize the benefits of this versatile material while mitigating potential risks. Project Overview

Timber research explored the use of timber in building construction industry as one of the most important material in construction. Timber is the only building material that properly use positively benefits the plants and our relationship to it. And this study is to assess the problems and prospects of timber as an external material in building production in hot climates climate and to determine the various problems and prospects of timber in building the external parts of the building. And also to determine the functions of timber in building production to evaluate the quantity of wood used by the contractors as external material in building production and to achieve the natural quantity of timber as a building material i.e. aesthetes. The researcher in this study used the descriptive survey research design in order to simplify and understand the complex issue concerning the work which employed the use of questionnaire personal interview and observation in the collection of data. It is noted that it is the poor seasoned untreated and unpreserved timber supplied to builders in site which gives room to most defects which affects timber in building. Low cost buildings should be constructed with timber. Timber frames has many supporters especially because of its quick erection. Timber structures have been with us for time memorial it is still with us and the option our present generation has to research more into how the material can be used for effect to bring down the high cost of building material in Nigeria natural movement due to shrinkage. If shelter for all by the year 2015 is to be realized the use of timber in building should be highly encouraged
