This research study aims to explore and analyze the portrayal of mental health in contemporary African literature. Mental health is a pervasive issue that affects individuals globally, yet its representation in literature, particularly within the African context, remains underexplored. Through a comprehensive analysis of selected literary works from various African authors, this research seeks to shed light on the diverse ways in which mental health is depicted, understood, and addressed in African literary narratives. The research begins with an introductory chapter that sets the context for the study, providing background information on mental health discourse in literature, particularly within the African literary landscape. The problem statement highlights the lack of in-depth analysis of mental health representations in African literature, leading to the formulation of research objectives that aim to fill this gap. The limitations and scope of the study are outlined to provide a clear understanding of the research parameters, while the significance of the study underscores the importance of exploring mental health themes in African literature. The structure of the research and the definition of key terms lay the foundation for the subsequent chapters. Chapter two delves into a comprehensive literature review, examining existing scholarship on mental health representations in African literature.
