The introductory chapter provides an overview of the research, presenting the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the study. It also includes a comprehensive definition of key terms related to the representation of gender in African literature. The literature review chapter delves into existing scholarly works that have explored gender representations in African literature, highlighting key themes, trends, and debates in the field. The chapter critically analyzes a range of literary texts to provide a nuanced understanding of how gender is constructed and contested in African literary works.
