This research project aims to explore how gender roles are depicted in a selection of contemporary African literary works, with a focus on the representation of masculinity and femininity, as well as the intersections of gender with other social categories such as race, class, and sexuality. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study and presenting the problem statement. The objectives of the study are also articulated, along with the limitations and scope of the research. The significance of the study is highlighted, and the structure of the research is outlined, including the definition of key terms. Chapter Two consists of a comprehensive literature review that examines existing scholarship on gender roles in African literature. The review covers a range of critical perspectives and theoretical frameworks, providing a foundation for the analysis of the primary texts in the study.
