Abstract
Post-colonial literature has played a significant role in shaping modern identity formation by exploring the complexities of cultural hybridity, identity crisis, and the impact of colonial legacies on post-colonial societies. This research aims to analyze the influence of post-colonial literature on the formation of modern identities through a critical examination of selected literary works from diverse post-colonial contexts. The study employs a qualitative research approach to investigate how post-colonial authors have depicted the struggles, conflicts, and negotiations involved in the construction of individual and collective identities in the aftermath of colonialism. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two constitutes a comprehensive literature review that critically examines existing scholarship on post-colonial literature, identity formation, and the intersections between the two fields. This chapter aims to provide a theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between post-colonial literature and modern identity formation. Chapter Three delves into the research methodology, outlining the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures employed in this study. The chapter discusses the rationale behind the chosen methodology and justifies its appropriateness for addressing the research questions. Chapter Four presents the findings of the research, analyzing themes, patterns, and representations related to identity formation in selected post-colonial literary works. This chapter engages in a detailed discussion of the findings, drawing connections between the literary texts and the broader discourse on modern identity formation. In Chapter Five, the research concludes with a summary of key findings, implications for theory and practice, and recommendations for future research.
