Folklore, as an essential aspect of cultural heritage, has played a significant role in shaping contemporary literature across various cultures and societies. This research project aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the influence of folklore on contemporary literature by examining how traditional oral narratives, myths, legends, and folk beliefs have been incorporated and transformed in modern literary works. The study will explore the ways in which contemporary authors draw inspiration from folklore to create new narratives, characters, themes, and styles that reflect the rich tapestry of cultural traditions. The research will begin with an in-depth exploration of the background of folklore and its historical significance in shaping literary traditions. By analyzing the relationship between folklore and contemporary literature, this study seeks to address the problem statement of how folklore continues to resonate in modern storytelling and how it contributes to the evolution of literary expression. The objectives of the research include identifying the key elements of folklore that have influenced contemporary literature, examining the methods of adaptation and reinterpretation employed by authors, and evaluating the impact of folklore on the thematic and aesthetic dimensions of literary works. While acknowledging the limitations inherent in comparative analysis and the complexities of interpreting cultural texts, this study will define the scope by focusing on a selection of literary works from different geographical regions and cultural backgrounds. Chapter Two will consist of a comprehensive literature review that examines existing scholarship on the influence of folklore on contemporary literature. Chapter Three will detail the research methodology, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation techniques. In Chapter Four, the findings of the comparative analysis will be presented and discussed in detail, highlighting the common themes, motifs, and narrative strategies employed by authors in incorporating folklore into their works. The chapter will also explore the cultural implications of these literary adaptations and the ways in which folklore serves as a source of inspiration and cultural identity in contemporary storytelling. Finally, Chapter Five will offer a conclusion and summary of the research findings, highlighting the key insights gained from the comparative analysis and the implications for future research in the field of English and Literary Studies.
