This research project examines the profound impact of postcolonial theory on contemporary African literature. Postcolonial theory has emerged as a critical framework that seeks to analyze and interpret the cultural, social, and political implications of colonialism and its aftermath. In the context of African literature, postcolonial theory has played a significant role in shaping the narratives, themes, and representations found in literary works produced by African writers in the post-independence era. This study aims to explore how postcolonial theory has influenced the development of contemporary African literature, with a particular focus on the ways in which African writers have engaged with and responded to issues of identity, power, agency, and decolonization. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definitions of key terms. Chapter Two constitutes a comprehensive literature review that examines existing scholarship on postcolonial theory, African literature, and the intersections between the two fields. This chapter critically analyzes key concepts, debates, and theoretical frameworks that have shaped the study of postcolonial literature in the African context.
