The exploration of identity has been a recurring theme in literature, and its significance in understanding human experiences and societal dynamics cannot be overstated. This research project delves into the theme of identity in contemporary Nigerian literature, focusing on how Nigerian writers portray and interrogate issues of identity in their works. The study aims to analyze the complexities of identity formation, negotiation, and representation as depicted in selected literary texts from Nigeria. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure, and definition of terms. The introduction sets the stage for the exploration of identity in Nigerian literature and establishes the framework for the subsequent chapters. Chapter Two consists of a comprehensive literature review that examines existing scholarship on identity in literature, particularly within the context of Nigerian literary discourse. This chapter reviews relevant theories, concepts, and critical perspectives that inform the understanding of identity construction and representation in literature.
