Project Abstract

This project aims to critically examine the portrayal of marginalized communities in contemporary British literature, with a particular focus on the works of writers from diverse backgrounds. In recent decades, there has been a growing recognition of the need to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups within the literary landscape, and this study seeks to contribute to this important discourse. The project will explore how writers from marginalized communities, such as ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and individuals with disabilities, have sought to challenge dominant narratives and offer alternative perspectives on the lived experiences of their communities. By analyzing a range of literary works, including novels, short stories, and poetry, the study will investigate the strategies employed by these writers to disrupt traditional representations and assert their own narratives. A key aspect of the project will be the examination of the ways in which marginalized communities are portrayed in terms of their social, cultural, and political positioning within British society.
