Project Abstract

Constraints to the teaching of oral English are a significant issue that affects language instructors worldwide. This research project aims to identify and analyze the key constraints that impact the effective teaching of oral English in educational settings. The study will delve into various factors that hinder the development of oral English skills among students and explore potential solutions to address these constraints. One major constraint to the teaching of oral English is the lack of opportunities for students to practice speaking in real-life contexts. Traditional language teaching methods often focus more on reading and writing, neglecting the importance of oral communication skills. This imbalance in language instruction can result in students having limited proficiency in spoken English, despite their proficiency in reading and writing. Another constraint is the lack of resources and materials specifically designed to improve oral English skills. Many language programs may lack the necessary tools and support systems to help students practice speaking and listening effectively. This limitation can hinder students' progress in developing fluency, pronunciation, and overall communication skills in English. Furthermore, the lack of qualified language instructors who specialize in teaching oral English can be a significant constraint. Effective language teaching requires educators with expertise in oral communication techniques and strategies. Without qualified instructors, students may not receive the guidance and support they need to improve their speaking skills effectively. Additionally, cultural and social factors may also pose constraints to the teaching of oral English. Students from different cultural backgrounds may face challenges in adapting to English-speaking environments and may struggle to express themselves confidently in English. Understanding and addressing these cultural barriers are essential in creating a supportive learning environment for students to practice and improve their oral English skills. In conclusion, this research project will explore the various constraints that impact the teaching of oral English and propose recommendations to address these challenges effectively. By identifying and understanding these constraints, language instructors and educational institutions can develop more comprehensive strategies to enhance students' oral English proficiency. Ultimately, overcoming these constraints is crucial in preparing students to communicate effectively in English and succeed in academic and professional settings.

Project Overview

This study therefore focuses on the constraints to the teaching of oral English in secondary schools. Five researcher questions were formulated for the study, the design of the study was descriptive survey the sample size of the study was 150 students and 50 teachers who were all used for the study. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire whole.

The method of data analysis was mean and standard deviation.

The findings were discussed and recommendations were made.
