Abstract
Primary education in Nigeria faces various challenges that impede its effectiveness and quality. This research project explores the challenges and prospects associated with primary education in Nigeria. The challenges include inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, insufficient qualified teachers, high student-teacher ratios, inadequate teaching materials, and a lack of access to education in remote areas. These challenges have resulted in low enrollment rates, high dropout rates, poor learning outcomes, and a lack of educational equity. Despite these challenges, there are prospects for improving primary education in Nigeria. These prospects include increasing government funding for education, improving teacher training and recruitment processes, providing better infrastructure and facilities, enhancing the quality of teaching materials, reducing student-teacher ratios, and expanding access to education in underserved areas. Additionally, the adoption of innovative teaching methods, technology integration, community involvement, and collaboration with stakeholders can contribute to enhancing primary education outcomes in Nigeria. Addressing the challenges and capitalizing on the prospects for primary education in Nigeria requires a holistic approach that involves the government, educational institutions, teachers, parents, communities, and other stakeholders. By working together and prioritizing education, Nigeria can overcome the barriers to quality primary education and ensure that all children have access to a quality education that equips them with the knowledge and skills needed for personal and national development. In conclusion, primary education in Nigeria faces significant challenges, but there are also opportunities for improvement. By addressing funding issues, improving infrastructure, enhancing teacher quality, and expanding access to education, Nigeria can overcome these challenges and provide quality primary education for all children. Collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to education are essential for realizing the full potential of primary education in Nigeria and empowering the next generation of leaders and change-makers.

Project Overview

The research topic is โ€œchallenges and prospects of Primary educationโ€ in Nnewi South Local Government, Anambra State the researcher embarked upon in order to investigate the challenges facing Primary Education in public primary schools. Primary education has just been given proper recognition by the federal governments.

The researcher in her investigation looked into; purposes of Primary education, Origin of Primary education, qualities of an ideal Primary education, curriculum of Primary education, challenges facing Primary education, and ways to overcome the challenges and its prospects since the time of implementation.

Also, the researcher explained the importance of Primary education to the nation. The researcher administered questionnaire to collect relevant information on the research topic and selected ten public primary schools at random in the selected local government. Percentage calculation was used to analyze the data.

Finally, relevant recommendations were made for the management of Primary education in public primary schools.
