Project Abstract

Abstract
Examination malpractice among secondary school students is a growing concern in the educational sector. This research project aims to investigate the various causes of examination malpractice among secondary school students. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative research methods to gather comprehensive data on this phenomenon. The quantitative aspect of the research will involve the distribution of questionnaires to a sample of secondary school students to collect data on their experiences, attitudes, and perceptions regarding examination malpractice. The qualitative component will include in-depth interviews with teachers, school administrators, and other stakeholders to gain insights into the underlying factors contributing to examination malpractice. Preliminary findings suggest that the prevalence of examination malpractice among secondary school students is influenced by a combination of individual, institutional, and societal factors. Individual factors such as peer pressure, lack of preparation, and the desire to achieve high grades play a significant role in students' engagement in malpractice. Institutional factors including inadequate supervision during examinations, lack of strict penalties for offenders, and a focus on exam results over learning also contribute to the problem. Moreover, societal factors such as the emphasis on academic success, parental pressure, and the widespread acceptance of cheating as a norm further fuel examination malpractice among secondary school students. The interplay of these factors creates a conducive environment for students to resort to malpractice as a means to achieve academic success. By exploring these causes in-depth, this research project seeks to provide valuable insights for educational policymakers, school administrators, teachers, and parents to address the issue of examination malpractice effectively. Findings from this study will contribute to the development of targeted interventions and strategies aimed at curbing malpractice behaviors among secondary school students. Overall, this research project serves as a critical step towards understanding the complex dynamics that drive examination malpractice among secondary school students. By shedding light on the root causes of this phenomenon, the study aims to facilitate the implementation of evidence-based measures to promote academic integrity and uphold the credibility of the examination system in secondary schools.
