The rise of social media platforms has significantly influenced the way individuals communicate, bringing about notable changes in language evolution. This research project aims to explore the impact of social media on language evolution, focusing on the transformation of linguistic patterns and communication styles in the digital age. The study will employ a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative content analysis of social media interactions with quantitative data analysis to examine linguistic trends over time. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study and identifying the problem statement concerning the influence of social media on language evolution. The objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the research are also discussed, along with the definition of key terms related to the study. Chapter 2 comprises a comprehensive literature review that delves into existing research on the relationship between social media and language evolution. Ten key themes, including the impact of social media on language structure, lexical innovations, and communication dynamics, are explored to provide a theoretical framework for the study. Chapter 3 details the research methodology, outlining the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, and data analysis procedures. The chapter discusses the selection criteria for social media platforms and language samples, as well as the ethical considerations in conducting research on online communication data. In Chapter 4, the findings of the study are presented and discussed in detail. Seven key themes emerging from the data analysis are examined, shedding light on the ways in which social media platforms have influenced language evolution, including the emergence of new linguistic features, changes in communication norms, and the impact of digital communication on linguistic diversity. Chapter 5 concludes the research by summarizing the key findings, discussing their implications for language evolution, and providing recommendations for future research in this field. The conclusion reflects on the significance of social media as a driving force behind language change and highlights the need for continued monitoring and analysis of linguistic trends in the digital era. Overall, this research project contributes to the understanding of the complex interplay between social media and language evolution, offering insights into the transformative effects of digital communication on linguistic practices and patterns in contemporary society.
