The revitalization of abandoned industrial sites through adaptive reuse in urban areas has emerged as a critical issue in contemporary urban planning and development. This research project aims to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with repurposing these underutilized spaces to enhance the sustainability and livability of urban environments. The study will focus on identifying the key factors influencing the successful adaptive reuse of abandoned industrial sites, examining best practices from case studies, and proposing innovative strategies for sustainable urban regeneration. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of key terms. The chapter sets the stage for the subsequent chapters by outlining the research framework and establishing the context for the study. Chapter 2 conducts a comprehensive literature review to explore existing knowledge and research findings related to the adaptive reuse of abandoned industrial sites in urban areas. The chapter examines ten key themes, including historical context, economic implications, environmental considerations, social impacts, regulatory frameworks, design principles, community engagement, stakeholder involvement, successful case studies, and challenges faced in adaptive reuse projects.
