This research project aims to explore sustainable design strategies for urban affordable housing developments, addressing the pressing need for environmentally conscious and economically viable solutions in the realm of urban housing. Urbanization and population growth have intensified the demand for affordable housing, leading to a range of challenges including environmental degradation, resource depletion, and social inequality. Sustainable design offers an opportunity to mitigate these challenges by integrating principles of environmental responsibility, social equity, and economic feasibility into the planning and development of urban housing projects. The research begins with a comprehensive review of the literature on sustainable design in the context of urban affordable housing. Ten key themes emerge from this review, including green building practices, energy efficiency, materials selection, water conservation, site planning, social inclusivity, affordability, community engagement, policy frameworks, and case studies of successful projects. These themes serve as the foundation for the exploration of sustainable design strategies in the subsequent chapters. Chapter three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, which includes a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. The methodology encompasses site visits, interviews with stakeholders, surveys, data analysis, and simulation modeling to evaluate the effectiveness of sustainable design strategies in urban affordable housing developments. Key components of the methodology include research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. Chapter four presents the findings of the research, offering a detailed discussion of the implications of sustainable design strategies for urban affordable housing developments. The analysis reveals the potential benefits of integrating sustainable design principles into urban housing projects, including reduced environmental impact, improved quality of life for residents, lower operating costs, and enhanced community resilience. In the concluding chapter, the research summarizes the key findings and implications of the study, emphasizing the importance of sustainable design strategies in addressing the complex challenges of urban affordable housing. The research also offers recommendations for future research and practice in this field, advocating for a holistic approach that considers the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability in urban housing development.
