Green roofs, also known as vegetated roofs or eco-roofs, involve the cultivation of vegetation on building rooftops, offering a range of environmental, economic, and social benefits. This research project aims to explore the design and sustainability implications of integrating green roofs in urban architecture, focusing on their potential to enhance environmental performance, improve urban ecosystems, and contribute to the overall quality of urban living spaces. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of key terms. The chapter sets the foundation for the research by outlining the importance of sustainable design practices in urban architecture and introducing the concept of green roofs as a potential solution to enhance sustainability in urban environments.
