The welfare and behavior of captive animals, particularly in the case of highly intelligent and social species like chimpanzees, are of paramount importance for ethical and conservation reasons. This research aims to investigate the impact of environmental enrichment on the behavior and welfare of captive chimpanzees. The study will explore how providing a stimulating and diverse environment can enhance the overall well-being and mental health of these animals, ultimately contributing to their long-term survival in captivity. Chapter one introduces the research by providing background information on the importance of environmental enrichment in captive settings. The problem statement highlights the current challenges faced by captive chimpanzees and the need for innovative solutions to improve their welfare. The objectives of the study are outlined to address specific research questions related to the effects of environmental enrichment on chimpanzee behavior. Limitations and scope of the study are discussed, along with the significance of the research in advancing our understanding of animal welfare in captivity.
