Abstract
This research project focuses on investigating the effects of probiotics on the gut microbiota of pigs. The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the overall health and well-being of pigs, and probiotics have been increasingly recognized for their potential to modulate the composition and function of the gut microbiota. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the impact of probiotics on the diversity and abundance of gut microbial communities in pigs, assess the effects on digestive function and nutrient utilization, and investigate any potential benefits for overall health and performance. The research will begin with a comprehensive review of the current literature on probiotics, gut microbiota, and their interactions in pigs. This review will provide a solid foundation for understanding the mechanisms by which probiotics may influence the gut microbiota and impact pig health. The methodology will involve designing and conducting a controlled feeding trial with pigs, where different probiotic formulations will be administered to experimental groups while monitoring changes in gut microbial profiles, digestive parameters, and health indicators. Results from the study will be analyzed and discussed in detail in Chapter Four, focusing on the effects of probiotics on the gut microbiota composition, diversity, and metabolic activities in pigs. Additionally, the study will explore the implications of these changes on nutrient digestion, absorption, and utilization in pigs. The discussion will also address any potential limitations of the study design and provide insights into future research directions. In conclusion, this research project aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the use of probiotics to modulate the gut microbiota of pigs. The findings from this study will help to elucidate the potential benefits of probiotics in improving gut health, nutrient utilization, and overall performance in pigs.
