Project Abstract

Abstract
This research project aimed to assess the weight gain differences between indigenous and exotic breeds of broilers. The study was conducted over a period of 8 weeks, with a total of 100 broilers divided into two groups indigenous breed and exotic breed. The broilers were raised under similar environmental conditions and provided with the same feed and management practices. The weight gain of the broilers was monitored weekly, and the data collected was analyzed using statistical methods. The results indicated that there was a significant difference in weight gain between the indigenous and exotic breeds of broilers. The exotic breed showed a higher rate of weight gain compared to the indigenous breed throughout the 8-week period. Factors such as feed conversion ratio, feed efficiency, and mortality rate were also taken into consideration during the assessment. The exotic breed demonstrated better feed conversion ratio and efficiency, resulting in higher weight gain compared to the indigenous breed. Additionally, the mortality rate was lower in the exotic breed group, indicating better overall health and resilience. The findings of this study have implications for the poultry industry, particularly in terms of breeding and selection of broiler breeds for optimal weight gain and production efficiency. The results suggest that exotic breeds may be more suitable for commercial broiler production due to their superior growth performance compared to indigenous breeds. Further research could focus on exploring the genetic differences between indigenous and exotic breeds that contribute to the observed weight gain disparities. Understanding the underlying genetic factors could help in developing breeding strategies to enhance the growth potential of indigenous breeds or crossbreeding programs to leverage the strengths of both types of broilers. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the weight gain differences between indigenous and exotic breeds of broilers. The results highlight the importance of breed selection in maximizing productivity and efficiency in broiler production systems. By selecting the appropriate breed based on growth performance characteristics, poultry farmers can optimize their production outcomes and profitability.
