Project Abstract

<p><br>Aquaponics is a sustainable food production system that combines aquaculture with hydroponics in a symbiotic environment. It allows for the combined cultivation of fish and vegetables/herbs by recycling the fish waste as nutrients for plant growth. This study aims to evaluate three different aquaponics system designs - the media-filled bed system, the raft system and the nutrient film technique (NFT) system for their suitability in cultivating Tilapia fish with lettuce plants. Various parameters like fish biomass, plant growth, water quality parameters and economics will be compared across the three systems over a period of three months. The study hopes to identify the most efficient design suitable for small-scale adoption by farmers.<br><br><br></p>
