Project Abstract

<p><br>Milk is one of the most important agricultural commodities globally. However, small and marginal dairy farmers in developing countries face several challenges in efficient collection and processing of milk produced on their farms. This leads to significant post-harvest losses. The current study aims to design low-cost equipment that can facilitate on-farm collection, cooling, and basic processing of milk. Various design options were evaluated and prototypes developed. Testing of the equipment showed significant improvements in milk quality and reduction in wastage compared to traditional practices. The designed equipment has the potential to boost incomes of smallholder dairy farmers through increased marketable surplus.<br> <br></p>
