Project Abstract

This project aims to address the critical challenge of improving smallholder farmers' access to agricultural extension services in rural communities. Smallholder farmers, who constitute the backbone of agricultural production in many developing countries, often face significant barriers in obtaining the necessary information, training, and support to enhance their productivity and profitability. Inadequate access to extension services can lead to low crop yields, limited adoption of sustainable farming practices, and ultimately, the perpetuation of poverty and food insecurity in these communities. The project's primary objective is to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to enhance the reach and effectiveness of agricultural extension services, tailored to the unique needs and challenges of smallholder farmers in rural areas. This will involve a multi-pronged approach, including the strengthening of existing extension systems, the integration of innovative digital technologies, and the active engagement of local communities and stakeholders. One of the key components of the project will be the establishment of community-based extension hubs, where farmers can access a range of services and resources, including training workshops, demonstration plots, and one-on-one consultations with extension agents.
