Abstract
Climate change poses significant challenges to agricultural productivity, particularly for smallholder farmers in Nigeria. This study aims to assess the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers in Nigeria. The research will focus on understanding the specific challenges faced by smallholder farmers due to climate change and identifying potential adaptation strategies to mitigate these challenges. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative interviews with smallholder farmers in selected regions of Nigeria. The research will also incorporate a review of existing literature on climate change impacts on agriculture and potential adaptation measures. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research, including the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure, and definitions of terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review on climate change impacts on agricultural productivity, adaptation strategies, and the specific challenges faced by smallholder farmers in Nigeria. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including the research design, data collection methods, sample selection, data analysis techniques, and ethical considerations. It also discusses the theoretical framework guiding the study and the limitations of the methodology. In Chapter Four, the findings of the research are discussed in detail, highlighting the specific impacts of climate change on agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers in Nigeria.
