Abstract
Climate change poses a significant threat to agricultural productivity, particularly affecting smallholder farmers in developing countries. This research project aims to analyze the impact of climate change on crop yields and farm incomes among smallholder farmers in a developing country. The study focuses on understanding how changing climatic patterns, such as temperature variations, erratic rainfall, and extreme weather events, influence crop production and income levels of smallholder farmers. Through a case study approach, data will be collected from a sample of smallholder farmers to examine the relationship between climate change and agricultural outcomes. The research will begin with a comprehensive introduction that outlines the background of the study and the problem statement, highlighting the significance of addressing the impact of climate change on agriculture. The objectives of the study will be clearly defined to guide the research process, while the limitations and scope of the study will be acknowledged to provide context for the findings. Furthermore, the structure of the research will be outlined to give an overview of the organization of the study, and key terms will be defined to ensure clarity and understanding. The literature review will delve into existing research on climate change impacts on agriculture, focusing on studies related to smallholder farmers in developing countries. Ten key themes will be explored, including the effects of temperature changes, rainfall variability, adaptation strategies, and the economic implications of climate change on smallholder agriculture. This review will provide a theoretical framework for understanding the research problem and guide the development of research hypotheses. The research methodology section will detail the approach and methods used in the study, including data collection techniques, sample selection, and data analysis procedures. Eight components will be discussed, such as the research design, sampling strategy, data collection instruments, and statistical analysis methods employed to examine the research questions. The methodology will be structured to ensure the reliability and validity of the research findings. In the discussion of findings chapter, the research results will be presented and analyzed in detail, focusing on the relationship between climate change variables and crop yields, as well as the implications for farm incomes. Seven key findings will be explored, including the vulnerability of smallholder farmers to climate change impacts, the effectiveness of adaptation strategies, and the policy implications for supporting climate-resilient agriculture. Finally, the conclusion and summary chapter will synthesize the key findings of the study, highlighting the implications for policy, practice, and future research. Recommendations will be provided for policymakers, agricultural practitioners, and researchers to address the challenges posed by climate change on smallholder agriculture.
