Abstract
Climate change poses significant challenges to agricultural productivity, particularly for smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. This research project aims to investigate the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity in the context of smallholder farmers in the region. The study will focus on understanding how changing climatic conditions, such as shifts in rainfall patterns, temperature variability, and extreme weather events, are affecting agricultural production and livelihoods of smallholder farmers. Through a case study approach, data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and observations to assess the current situation and the strategies employed by smallholder farmers to adapt to these challenges. The research will be guided by a conceptual framework that integrates theories of climate change impacts on agriculture, vulnerability, and adaptation strategies. The literature review will provide a comprehensive overview of existing studies on climate change impacts on agricultural productivity, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting the unique challenges faced by smallholder farmers. By synthesizing and analyzing the literature, the research aims to identify gaps and contribute to the existing knowledge base on this important topic. The methodology chapter will outline the research design, sampling strategy, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques. It will also discuss the ethical considerations and potential limitations of the study. Through a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data such as agricultural productivity indicators and qualitative data from interviews will be collected and analyzed to provide a holistic understanding of the research problem. The findings chapter will present and discuss the results of the study, highlighting the key findings related to the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The discussion will explore the implications of these findings for policy, practice, and future research. It will also provide insights into the effectiveness of existing adaptation strategies and identify areas for improvement to enhance the resilience of smallholder farmers in the face of climate change.
