Project Abstract

This project aims to investigate the impact of agricultural policies on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in a developing country context. Smallholder farmers, who often operate on small plots of land and have limited access to resources, play a crucial role in ensuring food security and contributing to the agricultural sector's overall productivity. However, they are frequently marginalized and disproportionately affected by policy decisions that may not adequately consider their unique needs and challenges. The project's significance lies in its potential to provide policymakers and stakeholders with evidence-based insights that can inform the design and implementation of more inclusive and effective agricultural policies. By understanding the direct and indirect effects of these policies on smallholder farmers' incomes, asset ownership, access to markets, and overall well-being, the project aims to generate actionable recommendations for enhancing the livelihoods of this vulnerable population. The project will adopt a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques. This comprehensive approach will enable the researchers to capture the multifaceted nature of smallholder farmers' experiences and the complex interactions between agricultural policies and their livelihoods.
