Project Abstract

This project aims to investigate the influence of agricultural policies on the productivity and livelihoods of small-scale farmers in a specific region. Small-scale farmers are the backbone of many agricultural economies, providing a significant contribution to food security and rural development. However, these farmers often face various challenges, including limited access to resources, technology, and markets, which can impede their ability to improve their productivity and overall well-being. Agricultural policies play a crucial role in addressing the needs of small-scale farmers and shaping the agricultural landscape. The project will examine the effectiveness of existing policies in supporting small-scale farmers, identifying potential gaps, and exploring opportunities for policy refinement or new interventions. By evaluating the impact of these policies, the study aims to provide policymakers and stakeholders with evidence-based insights to guide the development of more inclusive and impactful agricultural policies. The project will employ a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. This includes conducting surveys with small-scale farmers to gather information on their farming practices, productivity levels, and livelihood outcomes. Additionally, the study will review relevant policy documents, conduct interviews with policymakers and agricultural experts, and engage in focus group discussions with farmer organizations and community leaders. The data collected will be analyzed to assess the relationship between agricultural policies and the productivity and livelihoods of small-scale farmers. The analysis will consider factors such as access to inputs (e.g., seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation), extension services, credit facilities, and market linkages. The project will also explore the potential effects of policies on income, food security, and overall household well-being. The findings of this project will contribute to the broader understanding of the complex interplay between agricultural policies and the lived experiences of small-scale farmers. The insights gained will inform policy recommendations and strategies to enhance the effectiveness of agricultural policies in supporting small-scale farmers and promoting sustainable and inclusive rural development. The goal is to engage policymakers, agricultural extension agencies, farmer organizations, and other relevant stakeholders in a dialogue to facilitate the translation of research findings into practical policy interventions and on-the-ground implementation.
