Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of telehealth on chronic disease management in older adults through a comparative study. Chronic diseases are a significant health concern among the aging population, leading to increased healthcare costs and reduced quality of life. Telehealth, defined as the use of technology to deliver healthcare remotely, has emerged as a promising tool to improve access to care and enhance disease management. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of telehealth interventions in managing chronic diseases in older adults, focusing on key outcomes such as disease control, patient satisfaction, and healthcare utilization. The research begins with a comprehensive review of the existing literature on telehealth and chronic disease management in older adults. This review explores the current state of telehealth interventions, the challenges and opportunities in managing chronic diseases in this population, and the potential benefits of incorporating telehealth into healthcare delivery systems. By synthesizing evidence from previous studies, this review sets the stage for the empirical investigation that follows. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of patient data with qualitative interviews with healthcare providers and older adults receiving telehealth services. The research methodology includes the selection of two healthcare centers, one using traditional in-person care and the other offering telehealth services, to compare the outcomes of chronic disease management in older adults. Key variables such as disease progression, patient satisfaction, and healthcare utilization are measured and analyzed to assess the impact of telehealth interventions. The findings reveal that telehealth interventions have a positive impact on chronic disease management in older adults, leading to improved disease control, increased patient satisfaction, and reduced healthcare utilization. Older adults receiving telehealth services report higher levels of engagement with their care plans, better adherence to treatment regimens, and increased access to healthcare providers. Healthcare providers also highlight the benefits of telehealth in improving communication with patients, monitoring disease progression, and enhancing the overall quality of care. This study contributes to the growing body of research on telehealth and chronic disease management by providing empirical evidence of the effectiveness of telehealth interventions in older adults. The findings underscore the potential of telehealth to transform healthcare delivery for this population, offering a cost-effective and patient-centered approach to managing chronic diseases. By highlighting the benefits and challenges of telehealth implementation, this research informs healthcare providers, policymakers, and stakeholders on the opportunities to enhance care for older adults with chronic diseases. In conclusion, this comparative study demonstrates the positive impact of telehealth on chronic disease management in older adults, emphasizing the importance of integrating telehealth strategies into healthcare systems to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. The findings of this research have implications for future telehealth initiatives aimed at addressing the unique healthcare needs of older adults with chronic diseases, paving the way for innovative and patient-centered care delivery models.
