Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of telehealth on patient care outcomes within a rural community setting. With the increasing adoption of telehealth technologies in healthcare, it is essential to understand how these innovations influence patient care in underserved rural areas. The study focuses on exploring the effectiveness of telehealth interventions in improving access to care, enhancing health outcomes, and increasing patient satisfaction in a rural context. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of patient data and qualitative interviews with healthcare providers and patients. The study sample included patients receiving telehealth services in a rural community clinic over a one-year period. Data collection methods included surveys, medical records review, and semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal several key insights into the impact of telehealth on patient care outcomes. Firstly, telehealth interventions were found to significantly improve access to care for rural patients, reducing travel time and costs associated with seeking healthcare services. Secondly, patients receiving telehealth services reported high levels of satisfaction with the quality of care and communication with healthcare providers through virtual visits. Furthermore, the study found that telehealth interventions led to positive health outcomes among rural patients, with improvements in chronic disease management and preventive care. Patients with limited mobility or access to transportation benefited the most from telehealth services, as they were able to receive timely care without the need for in-person visits. The thesis concludes with a discussion of the implications of the study findings for healthcare practice and policy. The research highlights the potential of telehealth to address healthcare disparities in rural communities and improve patient care outcomes. Recommendations are provided for healthcare providers, policymakers, and telehealth technology developers to optimize the use of telehealth in rural settings. Overall, this thesis contributes to the growing body of literature on telehealth and its impact on patient care outcomes in rural areas.
