Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The emergence and spread of drug-resistant bacteria pose a significant threat to public health worldwide. In response to this pressing issue, this study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial properties of natural compounds extracted from medicinal plants against drug-resistant bacteria. The research was conducted through a series of in vitro experiments to determine the efficacy of these natural compounds in inhibiting the growth of drug-resistant bacterial strains. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the study, outlining the background of the research, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of terms. The literature review in Chapter 2 explores existing knowledge on antimicrobial properties of natural compounds and drug-resistant bacteria, providing a theoretical framework for the study. Chapter 3 details the research methodology, including the selection and preparation of natural compounds, bacterial strains used, experimental setup, data collection methods, and statistical analysis. The results of the experiments are presented and discussed in Chapter 4, highlighting the effectiveness of the natural compounds against drug-resistant bacteria and comparing their performance to conventional antibiotics. The conclusion and summary in Chapter 5 draw key insights from the study, emphasizing the potential of natural compounds as alternative antimicrobial agents to combat drug resistance. The findings of this research contribute to the growing body of knowledge on natural products with antimicrobial properties and their application in addressing the global challenge of drug-resistant bacteria. Overall, this thesis underscores the importance of exploring natural compounds from medicinal plants as potential solutions to the antimicrobial resistance crisis. The results of this study have implications for the development of novel antimicrobial agents and strategies for combating drug-resistant bacteria, ultimately advancing efforts to safeguard public health and promote sustainable healthcare practices.

Thesis Overview

The project titled "Investigation of the antimicrobial properties of natural compounds extracted from medicinal plants against drug-resistant bacteria" aims to address the pressing issue of antibiotic resistance by exploring the potential of natural compounds derived from medicinal plants as alternative antimicrobial agents. Antibiotic resistance has become a major global health concern, leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. The overuse and misuse of antibiotics have accelerated the development of drug-resistant bacteria, making it crucial to explore new avenues for combating these pathogens. Natural compounds from medicinal plants have long been used in traditional medicine for their therapeutic properties. These compounds possess diverse chemical structures and bioactive properties that make them promising candidates for antimicrobial agents. By investigating the antimicrobial properties of these natural compounds against drug-resistant bacteria, this research project seeks to contribute to the development of novel and effective treatments for infectious diseases. The research will involve the extraction of natural compounds from selected medicinal plants followed by screening tests to evaluate their antimicrobial activity. Various drug-resistant bacterial strains will be used as test organisms to assess the effectiveness of the natural compounds. The project will employ a combination of microbiological techniques, such as agar diffusion assays and broth dilution methods, to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and zone of inhibition of the natural compounds against the bacteria. Furthermore, the project will investigate the mechanisms of action of the natural compounds on drug-resistant bacteria, aiming to elucidate their antimicrobial activity at the molecular level. This will involve studying the effects of the compounds on bacterial cell membranes, metabolic pathways, and resistance mechanisms. Understanding the mode of action of these natural compounds will provide valuable insights into their potential as antimicrobial agents and guide future drug development efforts. Overall, the research project on the antimicrobial properties of natural compounds extracted from medicinal plants against drug-resistant bacteria represents a significant step towards addressing the challenge of antibiotic resistance. By harnessing the therapeutic potential of natural compounds, this study aims to identify new sources of antimicrobial agents that can help combat drug-resistant bacterial infections and improve public health outcomes.
