Abstract
This thesis investigates the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts against common pathogens in a hospital setting. The emergence of antimicrobial resistance poses a significant challenge to public health, necessitating the exploration of alternative antimicrobial agents. Plant extracts have long been recognized for their potential antimicrobial properties, making them promising candidates for the development of new therapeutic agents. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of selected plant extracts in inhibiting the growth of common pathogens found in hospital environments. The research begins with a comprehensive literature review to establish the background and rationale for the study. Various studies on the antimicrobial activities of plant extracts and their mechanisms of action are reviewed to provide a solid foundation for the research. The methodology section outlines the experimental design, including the selection and preparation of plant extracts, the identification of target pathogens, and the antimicrobial assays to be conducted. Results from the antimicrobial assays are analyzed and discussed in Chapter Four. The findings reveal the antimicrobial potential of the selected plant extracts against a range of pathogens commonly encountered in hospital settings. The discussion highlights the implications of these findings for the development of new antimicrobial agents and the potential integration of plant-based therapies in clinical practice. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of exploring natural sources, such as plant extracts, for novel antimicrobial agents. The significant antimicrobial activity exhibited by certain plant extracts against common hospital pathogens suggests their potential as alternative or adjunct therapies in the fight against antimicrobial resistance. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on plant-based antimicrobials and provides a foundation for further research in this area.
