Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate and evaluate the effectiveness of laser therapy as a treatment modality for periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a common chronic inflammatory condition affecting the supporting structures of the teeth, leading to tooth loss if left untreated. Traditional treatments for periodontal disease include scaling and root planing, surgery, and antibiotics. Laser therapy has emerged as a promising alternative treatment due to its precision, minimal invasiveness, and potential for selective tissue interaction. This research employed a systematic literature review methodology to gather and analyze existing studies on the use of laser therapy in periodontal disease treatment. The literature review revealed a growing body of evidence supporting the efficacy of laser therapy in reducing periodontal inflammation, bacterial load, and improving clinical parameters such as probing depth and attachment levels. Various types of lasers, including diode, NdYAG, and CO2 lasers, have been studied for their effectiveness in periodontal therapy. The research methodology involved a randomized controlled trial to assess the clinical outcomes of laser therapy compared to traditional treatment modalities. Patients with moderate to severe periodontal disease were randomly assigned to receive either laser therapy or conventional treatment. Clinical parameters such as probing depth, clinical attachment levels, bleeding on probing, and patient-reported outcomes were evaluated at baseline and follow-up visits. The results of the study demonstrated that laser therapy showed comparable or even superior outcomes to traditional periodontal treatments in terms of reducing inflammation, improving clinical parameters, and enhancing patient satisfaction. Laser therapy was found to be safe, minimally invasive, and well-tolerated by patients. However, the long-term effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of laser therapy in periodontal disease management require further investigation. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the efficacy of laser therapy as a treatment option for periodontal disease. The findings suggest that laser therapy has the potential to revolutionize the field of periodontics by offering a minimally invasive, precise, and effective treatment modality. Further research is warranted to explore the optimal protocols, laser parameters, and long-term outcomes of laser therapy in periodontal disease management.
