Abstract
Periodontal disease is a prevalent oral health issue affecting a large population worldwide. Traditional treatment methods for periodontal disease, such as scaling and root planing, have shown varying degrees of success. Laser therapy has emerged as a promising alternative for the treatment of periodontal disease due to its precision and minimally invasive nature. This thesis aims to investigate the efficacy of laser therapy in the treatment of periodontal disease. The research begins with a comprehensive review of the literature surrounding laser therapy in periodontal treatment. Various studies highlighting the benefits and limitations of laser therapy compared to traditional methods will be analyzed to provide a solid foundation for the research. The methodology section details the research design, sample selection, data collection methods, and analysis techniques employed in this study. A randomized controlled trial will be conducted to compare the outcomes of laser therapy with traditional treatment methods in patients with periodontal disease. The findings from the study will be thoroughly discussed in Chapter Four, focusing on the effectiveness of laser therapy in reducing periodontal inflammation, improving clinical attachment levels, and promoting overall periodontal health. Factors such as patient comfort, treatment time, and cost-effectiveness will also be considered in the discussion. In conclusion, the results of this study will contribute valuable insights into the efficacy of laser therapy in the treatment of periodontal disease. The potential of laser therapy to revolutionize periodontal treatment protocols and improve patient outcomes will be highlighted. Recommendations for future research and clinical practice will be provided based on the findings of this study. The project titled "Investigating the Efficacy of Laser Therapy in the Treatment of Periodontal Disease" aims to explore the potential benefits of laser therapy as a treatment modality for periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a prevalent oral health condition characterized by inflammation and infection of the tissues surrounding the teeth, leading to gum recession, bone loss, and eventual tooth loss if left untreated. Traditional treatments for periodontal disease, such as scaling and root planing, have shown efficacy in managing the disease; however, they may have limitations in terms of patient comfort and treatment outcomes. Laser therapy has emerged as a promising alternative or adjunctive treatment for periodontal disease due to its minimally invasive nature, reduced discomfort, and potential for improved clinical outcomes. By directing laser energy at the affected gum tissues, it is believed that laser therapy can effectively target and eliminate bacteria, reduce inflammation, promote tissue regeneration, and facilitate periodontal healing. However, the scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of laser therapy in the treatment of periodontal disease is still evolving, and further research is needed to establish its clinical effectiveness and safety. This research project will involve a comprehensive review of the existing literature on laser therapy in periodontal treatment, including studies that have investigated its biological effects, clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and potential complications. Through a systematic review and meta-analysis of relevant studies, this project aims to synthesize the current evidence on the efficacy of laser therapy in managing periodontal disease and provide insights into its comparative effectiveness against traditional treatment modalities. Furthermore, this project will also include a clinical component where the efficacy of laser therapy will be evaluated in a cohort of patients with periodontal disease. By assessing clinical parameters such as probing depth, clinical attachment level, bleeding on probing, and patient-reported outcomes, this study aims to provide real-world data on the effectiveness of laser therapy in improving periodontal health and patient satisfaction. Overall, this research overview highlights the significance of investigating the efficacy of laser therapy in the treatment of periodontal disease, with the ultimate goal of advancing our understanding of this innovative treatment approach and its potential implications for clinical practice.
