Abstract
This thesis aims to investigate the effectiveness of oral health education in preventing dental caries among school children. Dental caries is a prevalent oral health issue affecting children worldwide, leading to pain, discomfort, and potential long-term consequences if left untreated. The study focuses on assessing the impact of targeted oral health education interventions on improving oral hygiene practices and reducing the incidence of dental caries in school-aged children. The research will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys to measure changes in oral health knowledge and behaviors, as well as qualitative interviews to explore the experiences and perceptions of participants regarding the effectiveness of the educational interventions. A sample of school children aged 6-12 years will be recruited from local schools to participate in the study. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the study, including the background of the research topic, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review on dental caries, oral health education strategies, and previous studies related to the topic. The literature review aims to provide a theoretical framework for understanding the impact of oral health education on dental caries prevention in children.
