Abstract
Maintaining optimal oral hygiene is essential for preventing dental diseases, with plaque removal being a cornerstone of oral care. Dental flossing is a widely recommended method for removing plaque from interdental spaces, but the efficacy of different flossing techniques remains a topic of debate. This thesis aims to assess the efficacy of various dental flossing techniques in plaque removal to provide evidence-based recommendations for oral health practices. The study will be conducted through a systematic literature review of existing research on dental flossing techniques and their effectiveness in plaque removal. Ten key articles will be selected for detailed analysis, focusing on the methodologies used, outcomes measured, and conclusions drawn regarding the efficacy of different flossing techniques. The review will encompass both clinical trials and experimental studies to provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence in this field. In the research methodology section, the study design will be outlined, detailing the criteria for article selection, data extraction methods, and analysis techniques. The selection criteria will include studies published in the last decade, written in English, and focusing on the comparison of two or more dental flossing techniques in plaque removal. Data extraction will involve capturing key variables such as sample size, intervention duration, outcome measures, and statistical analyses performed. The discussion of findings will present a synthesis of the results from the selected studies, highlighting the similarities and differences in the efficacy of various flossing techniques. Factors such as floss type, technique variations, and participant characteristics will be examined to identify patterns in the data and draw conclusions on the most effective flossing practices for plaque removal. The implications of the findings for clinical practice and recommendations for future research will also be discussed.
