Abstract
The research project focuses on investigating the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media platforms have become an integral part of young people's lives, providing opportunities for social interaction, self-expression, and information sharing. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental well-being. This study aims to explore the various ways in which social media can influence the mental health of adolescents. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on adolescents' social media usage patterns and their perceptions of how it affects their mental health. The quantitative phase will involve administering standardized questionnaires to a sample of adolescents to assess their social media habits, mental health status, and overall well-being. The qualitative phase will consist of in-depth interviews with a subset of participants to delve deeper into their experiences and perspectives regarding social media and mental health. Findings from this research project will contribute to a better understanding of the complex relationship between social media use and mental health among adolescents. This knowledge can inform the development of targeted interventions and strategies to promote positive mental health in this vulnerable population. By identifying both the positive and negative impacts of social media, policymakers, educators, and mental health professionals can work together to create a safer online environment for young people. The results of this study will also have implications for parents and caregivers, highlighting the importance of monitoring adolescents' social media use and promoting healthy screen time habits. By fostering open communication and providing support, adults can help adolescents navigate the challenges of social media while safeguarding their mental well-being.
