Thesis Abstract

The abstract is as follows This research project focuses on exploring the impact of social media on mental health among young adults. Social media platforms have become an integral part of daily life, offering opportunities for communication, networking, and entertainment. However, there is growing concern about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental well-being. This study aims to investigate the relationship between social media usage patterns and mental health outcomes, including symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject. A sample of young adults aged 18-25 will be recruited to participate in the study. Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires assessing their social media usage habits and mental health status. Additionally, a subset of participants will be selected for in-depth interviews to explore their experiences and perceptions related to social media and mental health. Quantitative data analysis will involve statistical tests to examine correlations between social media usage variables and mental health measures. The qualitative data obtained from interviews will be analyzed thematically to identify common themes and insights. By integrating both quantitative and qualitative findings, this study aims to provide a nuanced understanding of how social media impacts mental health among young adults. The results of this research project are expected to contribute valuable insights to the existing literature on social media and mental health. Findings may inform future interventions and strategies aimed at promoting positive mental health outcomes in young adults who use social media regularly. Additionally, this study may shed light on potential risk factors associated with social media use and mental health issues, offering implications for clinical practice and public health initiatives.
