Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of body-worn cameras (BWCs) on police accountability and public trust in law enforcement. The use of BWCs has become increasingly prevalent in policing as a tool to enhance transparency, accountability, and trust between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of BWCs in promoting police accountability and rebuilding public trust in law enforcement agencies. The research methodology employed in this study includes a comprehensive literature review, analysis of existing studies on BWCs, and primary data collection through interviews with police officers, community members, and stakeholders involved in the implementation of BWC programs. The findings reveal the multifaceted impact of BWCs on various aspects of policing, including officer behavior, community interactions, evidentiary value, and public perceptions of law enforcement. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, outlining the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. Chapter Two presents a detailed literature review on the use of BWCs in policing, covering topics such as accountability, transparency, public trust, officer behavior, legal considerations, and ethical implications. Chapter Three discusses the research methodology, including research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. The chapter also describes the participants involved in the study and the rationale behind the selection criteria. Chapter Four presents the findings of the study, highlighting the impact of BWCs on police accountability and public trust.
