Abstract
The utilization of body-worn cameras (BWCs) by law enforcement agencies has garnered significant attention in recent years due to their potential to enhance police accountability and rebuild public trust. This thesis investigates the impact of BWCs on police accountability and public trust in law enforcement. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, this study examines the theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence surrounding the adoption and implementation of BWCs in police departments. The research methodology employed in this study includes a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative analysis of BWC usage data and qualitative interviews with police officers and community members. The findings of this research reveal several key insights into the effects of BWCs on police behavior and community perceptions. The analysis of BWC footage demonstrates the potential of these devices to improve officer conduct, increase transparency, and provide crucial evidence in investigations. Moreover, the qualitative data gathered from stakeholders shed light on the nuanced impact of BWCs on trust-building efforts between law enforcement and the community. Factors influencing the effectiveness of BWCs, such as officer training, privacy concerns, and organizational policies, are also explored in depth.
