Abstract
Fuel pump meter fraud is a serious issue affecting the petroleum industry, leading to financial losses for both consumers and business owners. This research project focuses on evaluating pump meter fraud at filling stations in Uyo, Nigeria. The study aims to investigate the prevalence of pump meter fraud, identify the common methods used to manipulate fuel dispensing meters, and assess the impact of fraud on consumers and filling station operators. The research methodology involves a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data will be collected through on-site inspections, interviews with industry experts, and surveys of consumers and filling station owners. The study will analyze the collected data to determine the extent of pump meter fraud in Uyo, the techniques employed by fraudsters, and the financial implications for both customers and businesses. The findings of this research will provide valuable insights into the prevalence and impact of pump meter fraud in the petroleum industry. By identifying the common methods used to manipulate fuel dispensing meters, this study aims to raise awareness about the issue and help stakeholders develop strategies to combat fraud effectively. The results will also help regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies to implement more stringent measures to prevent and detect pump meter fraud. Overall, this research project is crucial for understanding the extent of pump meter fraud in Uyo and its implications for consumers and filling station operators. By shedding light on this issue, the study contributes to the ongoing efforts to promote transparency and integrity in the petroleum industry, ultimately benefiting both businesses and customers.
