Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the perception of co-workers towards individuals who have previously been incarcerated. The study seeks to explore the attitudes, biases, and prejudices that co-workers may hold towards ex-convicts in the workplace. The research will delve into the factors that influence these perceptions, including personal experiences, societal stereotypes, and organizational culture. The impact of these perceptions on workplace dynamics, teamwork, and overall productivity will also be examined. Understanding how co-workers view ex-convicts is crucial for fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment. By identifying the underlying beliefs and attitudes that co-workers hold, organizations can develop targeted interventions to promote acceptance, reduce stigma, and facilitate the successful reintegration of ex-convicts into the workforce. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on co-workers' perceptions of ex-convicts. The survey will assess participants' attitudes towards hiring, working with, and trusting individuals with a criminal record. In contrast, the interviews will provide in-depth insights into the underlying reasons behind these attitudes, including personal beliefs, past experiences, and organizational influences. The findings of this study are expected to shed light on the complex dynamics at play when ex-convicts interact with their co-workers in a professional setting. By uncovering the underlying factors that shape co-workers' perceptions, this research aims to inform evidence-based strategies for promoting a more inclusive and supportive workplace environment. Ultimately, the goal of this project is to challenge stereotypes and biases, foster empathy and understanding, and promote the successful reintegration of ex-convicts into the workforce. By creating a more accepting and supportive workplace culture, organizations can tap into a diverse talent pool, enhance employee morale, and contribute to the broader societal goal of reducing recidivism and promoting rehabilitation for formerly incarcerated individuals.
