Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the aftercare service and reintegration of ex-convicts in Nigeria. The reintegration of individuals who have been incarcerated back into society is a critical aspect of the criminal justice system. However, the effectiveness of aftercare services provided to ex-convicts in Nigeria has not been extensively studied. This study seeks to fill this gap by conducting a survey to gather data on the experiences of ex-convicts with aftercare services and their overall reintegration process. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. A questionnaire will be developed and administered to a sample of ex-convicts in different regions of Nigeria to collect quantitative data on their experiences with aftercare services, including access to housing, employment opportunities, healthcare, and social support. Additionally, in-depth interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to gather qualitative data on their perceptions of the challenges they face during the reintegration process. The findings of this research will provide valuable insights into the current state of aftercare services for ex-convicts in Nigeria and the challenges they encounter during the reintegration process. The data collected will be analyzed to identify common themes and patterns, shedding light on the strengths and weaknesses of the existing aftercare programs. This information can be used to inform policy decisions and improve the effectiveness of aftercare services for ex-convicts in Nigeria. Overall, this research project is significant because successful reintegration of ex-convicts into society not only benefits the individuals themselves but also contributes to community safety and reduces rates of recidivism. By investigating the aftercare services and reintegration process of ex-convicts in Nigeria, this study seeks to contribute to the existing literature on criminal justice reform and provide practical recommendations for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders working in the field of rehabilitation and reintegration.
