Abstract
Zoonotic diseases pose a significant threat to public health, particularly in rural communities where close interactions between humans and animals are common. This thesis explores the importance of disease surveillance and control measures for zoonotic diseases in a rural community. The study aims to examine the current status of zoonotic diseases in the target community, identify key challenges in surveillance and control, propose effective strategies for prevention and management, and assess the impact of these measures on public health outcomes. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, highlighting the background of the study, the problem statement, research objectives, study limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. The literature review in Chapter Two critically analyzes existing research on zoonotic diseases, disease surveillance, and control measures, providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge in the field. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, detailing the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. This chapter also discusses the challenges and limitations encountered during the research process. Chapter Four presents the findings of the study, including the prevalence of zoonotic diseases in the rural community, existing surveillance and control measures, and the effectiveness of these interventions in reducing disease burden.
