Abstract
This thesis investigates the role of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders in dogs. Gastrointestinal disorders are common in dogs and can significantly impact their health and quality of life. Probiotics, live microorganisms that confer health benefits when administered in adequate amounts, have shown promise in managing gastrointestinal issues in various animal species, including dogs. However, the specific effects and mechanisms of probiotics in the context of canine gastrointestinal health remain an area of active research. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of probiotics in preventing and treating gastrointestinal disorders in dogs through a comprehensive review of existing literature and original research. The study will focus on assessing the impact of probiotics on digestive health, immune function, and overall well-being in dogs with gastrointestinal conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, gastritis, and diarrhea. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, background information on probiotics and gastrointestinal disorders in dogs, the problem statement, objectives of the study, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to probiotics and gastrointestinal health in dogs, including the mechanisms of action, types of probiotics commonly used, and clinical evidence supporting their efficacy. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including study design, sample selection criteria, probiotic intervention protocols, data collection methods, and statistical analysis procedures. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations and potential biases that may impact the study results. Chapter Four presents the findings of the research, including the effects of probiotics on gastrointestinal health parameters, immune markers, and clinical outcomes in dogs with gastrointestinal disorders.
